daffodil

I’ve been pretty happy lately and one thing that makes me very happy is anything Art Nouveau. So it made sense to do a series of colourful Art Nouveau inspired drawings. This is just the beginning of one; I think the daffodil pattern will be a very sweet touch. I found the most beautiful Art Nouveau book in a quaint little art book store in Maryborough last year. It sits in-between Frida and Klimt in my little book display. Collecting coffee table books is a serious and expensive addiction, so so worth it.

Magnolia

This is just sneak peak of drawings I’ve been working on for the Lucy Brown School Day Magazine Launch exhibition. My latest work has definitely been inspired by traditional tattoo art. I’ve been drawing in fine detail and really trying to depict the soft sentiment of the female spirit and nature.

good reading

‘Lucy brown schools days’ is a Brisbane magazine working hard to exposing Brisbane’s creative culture and local emerging artists. I’m very fortunate to have my ‘fox’ illustration gracing the magazines first issue and to be apart of their launch party and art exhibition.

Check it out, fun times ahead!

swim. work in progress

watercolour and pencils.

A lot still to finish but I thought I would share. I’ve had mixed feelings about this one. I’m trying to improve my colouring as much as possible in this one piece. Pretty exhausting stuff.. fish are cute though.

Great Dwellings

"Without the studio, however humble, the room where the imagination can enter cannot exist."

Monet

Picasso

Matisse

I find the studio behind an artist extremely interesting. I like to keep my space resembling something of an organised mess. But at the moment it’s really just a mess. There is no room to work anymore, my desk is completely overwhelmed by half empty cups of tea, around three hundred pencils and a faint smell... I’ve taken to the kitchen table instead of cleaning, for now anyway.

framed

I’ve been working on small and medium size ink drawings.
Carousels, soft faces, sea horses and the odd bear.
I'm slowly finishing them all and finding frames.
I should have a few framed, finished and ready in the next month...hopefully

klimt for valentines

Gustav Klimt, 'Beethovenfries'

AH. My camera has gone missing, which explains why I haven’t posted any photos of my progress lately. Isabelle’s commission piece has been finished for a few days now, but I’m planning on looking at it soon again with a fresh mind before framing.

After using prominently colouring pencil for my last two works, I have begun to really miss my ink and watercolour. I’m working on two new pieces, which I feel are very different from my previous work and spent the other day tea staining paper. I’ll have photos when I find my camera, so probably after I finally clean my room.

FOR IZZY,

My commission piece is still in its early stages. She’ll soon be a red headed vixen with some feathery friends.

Dear foxes and friends.

'little fox/2010'

In hopes of staying motivated and inspired, I thought I would start 2010 with a blog.I’ll use this space as somewhere to document my recent works and interests.

I have spent a lot of time over the summer developing my style and drawing from nature. ‘little fox’ is my most recent piece, finished a week ago. It was the first time I decided to experiment with coloured pencils. There was a crazy amount of pencil sharpening, which left my fingers blistered and bleeding for weeks. I'm now considering investing in an electronic pencil sharpener.

I’ve been given my first commission project from a dear friend of my mine,
So expect sketches soon...
